Computer Vision

computer The Computer Eye Clinic, located in the School of Optometry at the University of California at Berkeley, was started in August of 1985 - the first in the nation. It was founded to serve the large number of people experiencing vision and eye-related problems at their computers. These vision problems have become know as Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS).

CVS is often different from other typical eye problems. The eye care provided in this clinic is specific to the needs of computer users. As appropriate, the following aspects of vision and the workplace environment are evaluated.

  • Ergonomic arrangement of the computer workstation
  • Evaluation of lighting and reflections
  • Eye health evaluation and refraction
  • Analysis of visual functioning at near working distances
  • Computer glasses design and prescription

SCHEDULING AN EXAMINATION
Examinations can be scheduled by calling (510) 642-2020.

As some of the care provided in this clinic involves ergonomic assessment of the computer work environment, it is helpful for the patient to observe and measure aspects of their work environment and bring this information to the clinic at the scheduled examination.
