General Information
The Meredith W. Morgan University Eye Center provides a professional service as part of the clinical training program that is designed to fill the optometric eye care needs of homebound patients in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Bedside visits are made to patients' homes, convalescent centers, and living centers. Clinical faculty members working in conjunction with University Eye Center optometry interns will perform a complete bedside examination, including refraction and ocular health examination.
Examination
The examination is designed to meet each patient's individual visual needs:
- Reading
- Writing
- Hobbies
- Watching television
 
The ocular health evaluation includes:
- Assessment of the ocular anterior segment
- Measurement of intraocular pressure
- Visual field assessment
- Dilated fundus evaluation
- Treatment of ocular disease
Eyewear
If spectacle correction is necessary, patients will be given a copy of their prescription. This prescription may be filled either through U.C. Berkeley or may be taken to any optical shop that fills prescriptions.
Examination Fees/Eye Insurance
The examination fee is $115. An examination with a refraction is $140. MediCal, Medicare and other eye insurance is accepted.
