The University of California at Berkeley provides the best refractive laser correction you can obtain. We are committed to the safest and most advanced techniques for correcting vision. The Refractive Surgery Center offers procedures in All-Laser LASIK and Photo-Refractive Keratectomy (PRK) with Custom/Wavefront treatment.
The latest technologies for laser vision correction are employed, featuring the STAR S4 IR™ Excimer Laser System, the WaveScan WaveFront™ System, the IntraLase™ FS Laser, and the Oculus Pentacam™. The laser center's convenient location at the Meredith Morgan University Eye Center offers easy access for the public as well as university faculty, staff and students.
The three surgeons Dr. Andrew Sorenson, Dr. Lee Schwartz, and Dr. Mira Lim are clinical faculty members of the UC Berkeley School of Optometry. All of our ophthalmologists have extensive experience, having performed thousands of ocular surgeries.
We perform a thorough evaluation using the most advanced equipment to take pre-operative measurements, such as the Oculus Pentacam™ HR anterior segment tomography unit. The Pentacam™ provides a high resolution scan and offers more information about the cornea than most other units available today. This allows us to screen for subtle corneal abnormalities that make a patient an undesirable candidate for laser vision correction.
The IntraLase Laser™ is the first technology for a truly all-laser, blade-free LASIK procedure, replacing the hand-held microkeratome blade historically used in creating LASIK corneal flaps -- the first step of the procedure -- with a computer-guided, ultra-fast femtosecond laser. This technology provides unparalleled uniformity and precision, biomechanical stability, and an unsurpassed safety profile. The IntraLase Laser™ virtually eliminates the majority of the most severe sight-threatening LASIK complications related to use of the microkeratome and, by creating an optimal corneal surface below the flap, provides for better visual outcomes -- taking many patients to 20/20 vision and beyond.
